ColorMaker was established in 1996 with the aim of servicing small food manufacturers in the Southern California area. This group was frustrated by the lack of a local source for these ingredients and not being serviced, even disregarded, by larger national and international suppliers. ColorMaker took up their requests for help in utilizing natural colors in their products. It didn’t take long before colorMaker’s technical expertise became recognized, so much so that out-of-state companies were requesting help and samples from us. In 2000, colorMaker established a strategic partnership with DD Williamson & Co. (Louisville, KY). DDW is the primary global supplier of caramel color to leading soft drink companies. As such, DDW had a global footprint and a keen understanding of the importance of a finished product’s visual appearance. In 2015, colorMaker and DDW decided to move in different and separate directions, with DDW focusing its natural color sales efforts upon large, global processors and colorMaker continuing its business model of growing organically with smaller, entreprenurial companies in the exciting natural products industry.
As the company grew, its reputation spread internationally, forcing it to upscale its facilities to meet demand. It soon expanded beyond the food industry and into the pet food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries – and most recently into the nutraceutical industry. In addition, colorMaker launched Color Garden - Natural Colors for the Home Baker. Color Garden is our retail product and sells in natural grocery stores across the US and Canada. ColorMaker’s business model has been and remains to provide strong technical service; be a positive source of accurate useful information; use only the highest quality colors; maintain fair pricing; and treat every customer’s request as first and foremost.
